General Practice Doctors

In the General Practice Clinic at MCG School of Dentistry, our residents, who are recent dental school graduates, are seeking to further their knowledge of dentistry, by taking care of individuals, in our community, who have complex dental needs. Our staff of doctors takes care of all dental procedures, like crowns, dentures, partials, fillings, and extractions. We also specialize in placing Dental Implants, and routinely treat medically compromised patients, like patients undergoing cancer treatment or HIV+ patients. For most of our advanced dental procedures, we perform intravenous sedation, in an outpatient environment. If, however, a patient is too sick to be seen in our clinic, we can admit them into the hospital, and accomplish their treatment, usually in one visit.

Dr. Mike Pruett(gpr)

Dr. Pruett is an Assistant Professor of Oral Rehabilitation, Vice Chairman of Hospital Dentistry and Director of the General Practice Residency Program. He received his D.M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia and completed a two year General Practice Residency at the University of Virginia. He then became the Director of Dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. While in Hartford he also served as the Assistant Program Director of the General Practice Residency at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He currently maintains an active private practice with emphasis on I.V. sedation, management of medically compromised patients, and dental implants. MORE INFO | MPRUETT@mcg.edu

Dr. Jan Mitchell (AEGD)

Dr. Mitchell is the new Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program Director and Associate Professor. She comes to us from private practice in Anchorage, Alaska. Prior to going into private practice, Dr. Mitchell served in the U.S. Navy and as an Assistant Professor in the Comprehensive Dentistry Department at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Mitchell received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Emory University, her Master of Arts in Education from George Washington University, and completed her Comprehensive Dentistry Residency at the Naval Dental School.
