The cornerstone for keeping your teeth is healthy gums and bone. Periodontal treatment combines conservative as well as surgical reconstructive procedures to help patients keep their teeth. Periodontists specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal (or gum) disease and in the placement of dental implants. Our Periodontists have extensive training and experience, and all are familiar with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, placing dental implants and performing cosmetic periodontal procedures to help you achieve the healthy smile you desire.

Dr. Pat Basquill
Dr. Patrick J. Basquill received his DDS degree from Emory University School of Dentistry, Atlanta GA. He received his certificate in Periodontology in 1992 from the US Army Periodontal Residency Program and Masters in Oral Biology from the Medical College of Georgia. Prior to joining the MCG faculty in 2004, Dr. Basquill practiced both general dentistry and periodontics for 22yrs in the U.S. Army.
DR. PHIL HANES
Dr. Hanes is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontics. He is an American Board of Periodontology-Board Certified periodontist with more than twenty years of experience in periodontics and dental implant treatment.
DR RANJITHA KRISHNA
Dr. Krishna serves as an assistant professor in the department of periodontics. She completed her periodontal training from Indiana University. She practices all facets of periodontics including conservative treatment of periodontal disease, bone grafting, gingival surgeries, sinus augmentation procedures, and implant surgeries. Dr. Krishna’s research interest includes exploring the relation between periodontal disease and various systemic diseases, and has worked on related projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. Glenn Maze
Dr. Maze has thirty years experience as a Board Certified Periodontist with extensive experience in bone and soft tissue grafting, treatment of periodontitis, dental implant surgery and esthetic periodontal procedures. In addition, Dr. Maze uses oral and intravenous sedation for anxious patients.
DR. KOBI STERN
A Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Stern is an Assistant Professor of Periodontics at the Medical College of Georgia. He earned his DMD and M.Sc from the Hebrew University – Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Stern then completed his graduate training in Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completion of his graduate Periodontics training, Dr. Stern also completed his Advanced Training in Implant Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania. In June 2003, Dr. Stern was awarded the Hatton Award for Best Junior Investigator by the IADR. Dr. Stern is also the 2007 recipient of the LAZZARA Fellowship Award for Advanced Training in Implant Dentistry by the Academy of Periodontology.
He is a member of the Academy of Periodontology, and the Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Ulf Wikesjö
Dr. Wikesjö is a Professor of Periodontics, Oral Biology & Maxillofacial Pathology, and he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has more than thirty years experience in periodontal therapy. Dr. Wikesjö's practice has a focus on conservative, regenerative, and esthetic periodontal procedures. Dr. Wikesjö's research has focus on periodontal wound/healing regeneration, bone and dental implants. He lectures worldwide on these topics.
